Welcome to Room 17

Hello Parents!

Allow me to welcome you to room 17 at Joel Hidhal Elementary School.

My name is Bethany Silva and I am the TK-1 autism classroom teacher. I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year as we all venture down the road of education. We are going to have a great year!

Allow me tell you a few things about myself. I went to California State University Stanislaus for my Bachelors in Liberal Studies. Once I earned my bachelors I decided to continue to earn my teaching credential. I decided to go into the field of special education and earned an education specialist credential focusing on moderate/severe disabilities. For the first five years of my teaching experience I worked as a preschool special education teacher. Those years were a wonderful time of becoming aware of my role as an educator and learning about the different challenges that my students faced as well as the skills that they already had. For the past five and a half years I have worked for a non-profit  organization providing ABA therapy for clients with and without a diagnosis of Autism. The clients ranged from two years old to fifteen years old.

I feel that my experience in the classroom as well as delivering center based services has given me a wealth of knowledge and invaluable experience in working with children with ASD. I am here to ensure that your child is able to make the most success that he/she is able to by carefully and thoughtfully creating goals and objectives. I am here to ensure that your child learn and makes gains. I want to see them grow to their fullest potential. I feel strongly that parents and teachers are partners in the educational process. We are both here to support the children in learning and succeeding in their education. I am also here to provide your child with a fun school experience. They are children and at the end of the day having fun while learning is key!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or ideas that you may have. Your input is deeply valued and greatly desired. Here's to a great new school year!

 Sincerely,
Bethany Silva
